What Is Sports Physiotherapy?
Sports physiotherapy is a specialized field of physiotherapy concerned with the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries in athletes and people who engage in regular physical activity. Its aim is not only to heal the injury; it is to bring the person back to their previous performance, or even to a higher level, in the safest and most effective way.
Every sport has its own specific strains, and every athlete has their own body structure. For this reason, a fully personalized program is essential in sports physiotherapy, rather than a standard approach.
When Is It Used?
- Muscle and tendon injuries — strains, sprains, and tendinopathies.
- Ligament injuries — conditions such as cruciate ligament injuries and ankle sprains.
- Overuse syndromes — strains related to repetitive movements.
- Postoperative rehabilitation — planning the return-to-sport process.
- Performance and injury prevention — improving movement quality and muscle balance.
How Is It Applied?
The process begins with a detailed assessment. The athlete's injury history, the movements required by the sport, muscle balance, and movement quality are examined. Then, in accordance with the stage of the injury, control of pain and inflammation, recovery of range of motion, strengthening, and finally sport-specific functional work are planned in a gradual manner. The return to the field is carried out safely once the criteria are met.
Benefits
- Controlled and safe healing of the injury
- Efficient management of the return-to-sport timeline
- Reduced risk of re-injury
- Improved muscle balance and movement quality
- Protection and support of performance
What We Do
The athlete who comes to us is first given a detailed physical examination by our physician, who determines the type and stage of the injury and draws up a personalized treatment protocol. We regard surgery as a last resort and prefer the conservative path in every possible case.
During the period when the pain is pronounced, if our physician deems it appropriate, the process is supported with dry needling and injection applications. Our expert physiotherapists release tight and strained muscles with mobilization, cupping therapy, Graston, and clinical massage; when necessary, they adjust body alignment with chiropractic applications.
Once relief is achieved, we move on to the main phase of rehabilitation. With fully personalized, three-dimensional exercises, we strengthen the athlete gradually and prepare them for their return to the field with sport-specific functional work. The human body is three-dimensional; we apply personalized rather than standard exercises.
We finish our sessions with kinesiology (athletic) taping so that the support extends throughout the day. Throughout the process we monitor our athlete closely and see them off with full satisfaction, safely returning them to the field. Our principle: there is no disease, there is a patient.
