MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Rehabilitation

Overview

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). When the myelin sheath that surrounds nerve fibers and speeds up conduction is damaged by the immune system, nerve conduction slows down or becomes disrupted. This can lead to very different symptoms from one person to another.

MS may follow a relapsing course, progressing through periods of flare-up and recovery. The goal of rehabilitation is not to eliminate the disease, but to manage symptoms, preserve function and keep quality of life as high as possible.

Affected Functions

  • Fatigue — one of the most common and most challenging symptoms of MS; it markedly affects daily activities.
  • Impaired balance and coordination — unsteadiness while standing and walking, with a risk of falling.
  • Muscle weakness and spasticity — weakness or involuntary stiffness in the muscles.
  • Difficulty walking — trouble taking steps and walking longer distances.
  • Sensory disturbances — numbness, tingling, changes in sensation.
  • Reduced fine motor and hand skills.

Rehabilitation Approach

MS rehabilitation should be holistic and personalized. When planning the program, the person's current phase, level of fatigue and sensitivity to overheating are taken into account. Well-dosed exercises that do not overtire the person are used to preserve balance, strength and endurance, while neurophysiological approaches support correct movement patterns. Regular, measured exercise has been shown in many cases to reduce fatigue and preserve function.

What We Do

First, our physician evaluates the person's neurological status, muscle strength, balance, walking and level of fatigue in detail and sets a treatment goal appropriate to the phase of the disease. What matters to us is not the diagnosis but the person in front of us; because there is no disease, there is a patient.

Our specialist physiotherapists prepare a fully personalized program. Guided by the principles of neurophysiological approaches (such as Bobath), we work on balance, postural control and correct movement patterns. We use stretching and mobilization techniques to relax spastic muscles.

We dose our exercises according to the person's level of fatigue and, without overtiring them, aim to support strength, balance and endurance through three-dimensional, functional work. Our goal is to reduce the risk of falling and to preserve walking function and independence in daily life.

So that you can continue the process at home, we arrange a personalized home program and inform you about energy conservation and proper rest. Through regular follow-up and check-ups we reshape the program according to the course of the disease, aiming to support your quality of life with a holistic and patient approach.

Don't postpone your pain.
