Dry Needling (Acupuncture)

What Is Dry Needling (Acupuncture)?

Dry needling is a treatment method in which very fine needles are applied to trigger points and painful areas within the muscles. It is called dry needling because no medication is injected. The aim is to create a stimulus in tight, knotted muscle bands to promote muscle relaxation and help reduce pain. Some studies suggest that dry needling may ease chronic back and low back pain.

When Is It Used?

  • Trigger point pain — for knotting and tender spots in the muscles.
  • Low back and neck pain — for complaints related to tight muscle groups.
  • Hernia-related pain — as a supportive approach at reference points in lumbar and cervical disc herniation.
  • Chronic muscle tension — for long-standing spasm and stiffness.
  • Headache and migraine — for tension originating from the neck and shoulders.

How Is It Applied?

Before treatment, the source of the pain and the trigger points are identified. Our physician then applies sterile, single-use fine needles to the designated points. When the needle enters the muscle, a mild twitch or sensation of tightness may occur in the area; this is a sign that the muscle is beginning to relax. The duration of the application and the number of needles are determined according to each person's condition.

Benefits

  • Helps reduce pain by promoting relaxation in tight muscles.
  • Supports local blood circulation by creating a stimulus at trigger points.
  • Contributes to activating the body's own healing mechanisms.
  • Prepares the muscle before other manual applications and exercise.

What We Do

We regard dry needling as an important part of our treatment flow. After our physician establishes the diagnosis through a physical examination, they apply dry needling to the reference points where tightness, pain and numbness are present. In cases deemed necessary, our physician also performs injection applications. Once muscle relaxation and relief are achieved, we refer you to our physiotherapists; following mobilization, chiropractic care and clinical massage, we aim for lasting recovery with a personalized exercise program. We always regard surgery as a last resort.

Don't postpone your pain.

With the right assessment and a personalised programme, the step you take today can change your tomorrow.
