Developmental Delay Rehabilitation

Overview

Developmental delay is the condition in which a child acquires the skills expected for their age, such as sitting, crawling, walking, grasping or talking, later than their peers. Every child has their own pace of development; however, a marked delay in certain milestones may be a sign that that area needs support.

Developmental delays noticed in the early period give much better results in most cases when supported during these years, when the child's learning capacity is at its highest. For this reason, early assessment is of great importance.

When Is It Applied?

  • Motor delay — delay in head control, sitting, crawling or walking.
  • Muscle tone problems — overly loose (hypotonia) or overly tense (hypertonia) muscles.
  • Balance and coordination difficulties — difficulty standing and moving.
  • History of premature birth — situations in premature babies where development needs close monitoring.
  • Difficulty with daily skills — lagging behind in age-appropriate hand-eye coordination and movements.

Rehabilitation Approach

In developmental delay rehabilitation, our aim is to help the child acquire the missing milestones in the correct order and by using their own body. Because each child's needs are different, we apply not a standard program but a fully personalized plan.

Through neurodevelopmental approaches, balance and postural work, sensory stimuli and play-based movement exercises, we support the child's motor development step by step. We rely on motivation rather than pressure, and enjoyable repetition rather than force. We know that every child's pace of development is different, and we build the process not on comparison but on the child's own progress.

What We Do

First, our physician and physiotherapist evaluate the child's developmental history and current skills in detail. By determining how much support is needed at which milestone, we set realistic and achievable goals together with the family. We know that support started in the early period gives better results in most cases, and we take care to use time well.

We embed our sessions within play, creating an environment the child will happily take part in. Each small skill acquired becomes the foundation for the next step.

We always include the family in the process. We teach parents simple exercises and correct positioning that can be applied at home; because development accelerates when supported not only during session time but at every moment of the day. We follow the child's progress together with the family, with patience and warm communication.
