Paralysis / Stroke Rehabilitation

Overview

Paralysis (stroke) is a condition in which the blood flow to the brain is cut off due to a blocked or bleeding vessel, causing damage to the brain cells in that region. Depending on the affected part of the brain, loss of strength on one side of the body, along with speech, balance and functional disturbances, may occur.

The most important feature of the brain is neuroplasticity, that is, its ability to relearn. After a stroke, undamaged regions can take on new tasks with a correct and repetitive program. For this reason, regular, personalized rehabilitation started in the early period is of great importance in regaining lost functions.

Affected Functions

  • One-sided loss of strength (hemiplegia/hemiparesis) — weakness or paralysis in one half of the body.
  • Spasticity — involuntary stiffness and tension in the muscles.
  • Impaired balance and posture — difficulty sitting, standing and walking.
  • Loss of walking function — difficulty taking steps and walking safely.
  • Reduced hand and arm function — difficulty holding, grasping and with fine skills.
  • Sensory and coordination disturbances with reduced independence in daily life.

Rehabilitation Approach

Stroke rehabilitation is planned with a neurophysiological approach based on the brain's capacity to relearn. With neurological methods (such as Bobath), correct movement patterns are retaught, spasticity is managed, and balance and postural control are developed. The aim is to restore lost skills, support walking and hand functions, and make the person as independent as possible in daily life. Early initiation and regular repetition yield better results in many cases.

What We Do

First, our physician evaluates the person's muscle strength, tone, balance, walking and functional status in detail and sets the treatment goals. What matters to us is not the diagnosis but the person in front of us; because there is no disease, there is a patient.

Our specialist physiotherapists prepare a fully personalized neurological rehabilitation program. Guided by the principles of neurophysiological approaches (such as Bobath), we aim to reteach correct movement patterns, manage spasticity and strengthen the affected side. We provide relief for tense muscles through stretching, mobilization and clinical massage techniques.

We advance the program step by step through balance, postural control and gait work. With functional exercises targeting hand and arm function we work to restore daily living skills, and through personalized, repetitive work we aim to increase independence.

We see the family as an important part of the process; we arrange a home-specific program and teach correct positioning and movements for daily life. Through regular follow-up and check-ups we update the program according to the person's progress, aiming to raise function and quality of life to the highest level with a patient and holistic approach.

Don't postpone your pain.
